I'm having a bit of an issue erasing my disk image in recovery mode.


  • Solution 1: Permanently erase files/folders from Mac startup disk. The mode 'Erase Files/Folders' can help you permanently erase files and folders from startup disk. Just add files/folders from the Mac startup disk to the erasure list, then click on 'Erase Now' button. All the selected files/folders will be permanently erased.
  • To erase the Mac Startup Disk, select ‘Macintosh HD' from the left panel and click on the ‘Erase' button. After you do that the utility will ask you to a name to the drive after formatting it, you can use any name, even the same ‘Macintosh HD' name.

When I am logged in to my account and go to my Disk Utility, it only shows my Internal SSD drive. When I go into recovery mode, Disk Utility shows an External disk image. I wanted to erase this disk image, however the 'Erase' option is greyed out, so it doesn't give me the option.


Do I need to change permissions somewhere to do this?
